Disabled People of Clare

Disabled People of Clare (DPOC ) was set up in 1992 as a Centre for Independent Living, governed and led by people with disabilities. The primary objectives of the Centre are to offer local and regional accessible transport services, to provide information and support services, to conduct research and to influence disability policy. The organisation delivers these services in order to reduce isolation, maximise independence, support formal and informal education, empower personal creativity, enhance and support training and employment opportunities.

The support from the JP McManus Benevolent Fund has enabled the Transport Department of the DPOC to:

  • Provide door-to-door daily services to an additional seven Services Users, thus reducing an ever growing waiting list of disabled people requiring transport services;
  • Provide a ‘Freedom Wheels Vehicle’ to additional Service Users.
